Tesla is facing $800 million worth of unsold Cybertrucks, raising concerns about the market demand for this model

Tesla is currently grappling with a significant inventory challenge involving its Cybertruck model. As of May 2025, the company has over 10,000 unsold Cybertrucks, valued at approximately $800 million, primarily due to sluggish demand and production overcapacity .

Despite initial enthusiasm and over a million reservations, actual sales have been disappointing. In the first quarter of 2025, Tesla delivered only 6,406 Cybertrucks, a sharp decline from the previous quarter . This underperformance has led Tesla to reduce production and offer significant discounts—up to $10,000 per unit—to clear inventory .

Several factors contribute to the Cybertruck’s market challenges:

In response to these challenges, Tesla has adjusted its production strategy, including shifting workers from Cybertruck to Model Y production lines and introducing a rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck to reduce costs .

The situation has raised concerns among investors and analysts about Tesla’s future in the electric pickup market. Some have even labeled the Cybertruck as the worst automobile industry “flop” in decades .
