Chuck Schumer Under “Preliminary Investigation” for Threats Made Toward SCOTUS Justices

In significant developments for MAGA supporters anticipating a proactive stance from the new Trump Administration against the left, reports indicate that the administration is looking into Senator Chuck Schumer for his 2020 threats directed at two Supreme Court Justices.

The incident in question occurred in March 2020, when Senator Schumer addressed a crowd on the steps of the United States Supreme Court, seemingly issuing threats to Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch regarding the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade. He warned that if they proceeded with such a decision, they would “pay a price.”

In his impassioned remarks aimed at the justices, he stated, “In recent years, women’s reproductive rights have faced unprecedented attacks. From Louisiana to Missouri to Texas, Republican legislatures are waging a war on women, stripping away fundamental rights.”

Following these provocative statements, Schumer escalated his rhetoric, declaring, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have unleashed the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you proceed with these dreadful decisions.”

A few days later, he offered a vague non-apology during a Senate floor speech, asserting that he did not intend to threaten the justices. In this ambiguous statement, Schumer remarked that he “shouldn’t have used the words I did,” while accusing conservatives of attempting to exploit his comments to “generate outrage.”

At that time, Chief Justice Roberts issued an unusual critique of Senator Schumer, stating, “Justices understand that criticism is part of the job, but threats of this nature from high-ranking government officials are not only inappropriate but also perilous.”
An ethics complaint was previously lodged against Schumer, but it did not lead to any significant action at that time. However, the Trump Administration is now initiating steps to address the matter. According to a letter dated January 21, which was acquired by the Washington Post, interim U.S. Attorney for D.C., Ed Martin, has confirmed that an investigation into Schumer is underway and is currently in its initial phases.

In the letter addressed to Senator Schumer, Martin stated that he has commenced a “preliminary inquiry” regarding Schumer’s threatening remarks directed at Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. He emphasized the seriousness with which threats against public officials are regarded, expressing his anticipation for Schumer’s cooperation.

Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch commented on the situation via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “NEW: Schumer under investigation by @RealDonaldTrump DOJ over his threats against conservative Supreme Court justices. Letter of ‘inquiry’ sent by Acting DC US Attorney Ed Martin–WPOST.” This was a quote tweet referencing a 2022 post where he asserted, “Schumer should have been (and should be) criminally prosecuted for his threats targeting two Supreme Court justices.” Fitton has previously urged Trump to investigate Schumer back in 2020, following the senator’s threats against the justices. On what was then Twitter, he expressed, “OUTRAGE: @RealDonaldTrump should order DOJ investigation — Schumer must be held accountable for his threats against the Supreme Court.”
