Someone Should Make This BMW M6 V12 Restomod A Reality

Khyzyl Saleem’s take on the BMW E24 features a wild body kit, motorsport DNA, and a V12 heart

  • Khyzyl Saleem’s 6-Series restomod features a V12 engine and widebody styling.
  • Inspired by the TWR Supercat, it blends motorsport elements with dramatic design.
  • While unlikely to be built, the project highlights the potential of future restomods.

The restomod scene its moment right now, breathing new life into classics and youngtimers with extra power, sharper handling, and updated styling for today’s tastes. It seems every other week brings a new interpretation of an old favorite, and the latest comes from independent designer Khyzyl Saleem.

Known for his extravagant rendering style and a recent string of wild makeovers, Saleem has imagined a heavily modified take on the E24 BMW 6-Series, complete with motorsport references.

The project takes inspiration from the TWR Supercat, a reworked Jaguar XJS that famously raced against the BMW 635CSi in Group A competition back in the 1980s. Unlike the rare TWR special, however, Saleem’s vision of the BMW is likely to remain firmly in the digital world, at least for now.

As with Saleem’s other designs, the E24 gets a thorough exterior overhaul. The classic silhouette is still recognizable, but the overall effect is much more aggressive thanks to a bespoke bodykit. The shark-nose front end has been reimagined with a deeper bumper, a set of LED headlights, and a bulging hood peppered with vents. It looks less like a gentleman’s express and more like something that wants to pick a fight.

The side profile is dominated by massively flared fenders, while the rear end piles on the drama with an adjustable wing, tinted taillights, and a large diffuser that could probably double as a snow plow. The car sits on a set of HRE alloy wheels, a fitting choice considering the same brand was used on the TWR Supercat. The stance is purposeful, to say the least, and suggests this BMW would be far more at home on a track than at a Sunday cars-and-coffee meet.

The E24 BMW 6-Series stayed in production from 1976 to 1989 and was offered exclusively with six-cylinder engines, even in the high-performance M6. For his digital project, however, Saleem wanted something with a little more prestige, envisioning the car with a V12 under the hood. He did not dive into specifics, but the M70 engine from the 750i and 850i sounds like a natural choice. That is, assuming it would actually fit without turning the engine bay into a very expensive game of Tetris.

The car’s ultra-low ride height hints at a heavily modernized suspension setup. Saleem did not share any interior renderings, but through the tinted windows, we can make out a pair of racing bucket seats and a full roll cage. Predictably, the rear bench has been tossed out to save weight. Not that anyone was going to cram back there for a long road trip anyway.

As mentioned earlier, the BMW 635-KS remains a free-time project, with little chance of transitioning from pixels to pavement. Even so, the concept shows just how much potential the old 6-Series still has when placed in the right creative hands. Whether or not this particular vision ever gets built, it is easy to imagine that a few deep-pocketed enthusiasts might be tempted to take on something similarly wild.
